LAMDA stands for London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and is the oldest drama school in the UK. From January 2018 Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock, War Horse, Star Trek, The Hobbit) has replaces Timothy West as LAMDA’s president. LAMDA's graduates work regularly at the Royal National Theatre, the Royal Shakespeare Company, Shakespeare's Globe, London's West End and Hollywood as well as on the BBC, HBO and Broadway.
LAMDA examinations are taken by external students to the University and are considered the most prestigious qualification in the field of performance and communication examinations. LAMDA examinations are offered and recognised globally. Akin to music examinations they are regulated by OFQUAL and hold UCAS tariff points in their Level 3 (Grades 6-8) highest grades. They are a great way to build and measure progress with their rigorous and broad marking system and are a challenging way to build strong desirable technical and life skills.
